AS Reed Valve

I have a '92 4runner and I just discovered that the screws in the AS (Air Suction) reed valve have fallen out and the two halves came appart exposing the gasket. Is there anything special I must do to fix, or can I simply replace the new screws and tighten?...It seems to be spring loaded. or Is it necessary to replace the AS Reed Valve assembly with a new one?

Anyone know what size screws to ask for.
Phoned Toyota parts dealer and they were no help.
Thx for any advice

Mine, too.

This happened to me, too. For about the first minute when the truck was cold, exhaust would leak out of the valve and sound like a hole in the muffler, but fine as soon as warmed up. The mechanic that did the HG recall on mine must've forgotten to install or tighten the four screws, and they fell out after 70-80K. I discovered it when I was taking the engine down to do the second HG job myself.

I used the three distributor cap screws (same thread) since I got new cap screws with my new cap, then bought one more. You can take out a distributor screw for reference, think its a M8X1.0, but not sure. I reassembled the AS Reed Valve and the screws with no gasket (and everything else involved in the HG job), over 3K miles ago with no problems. Good Luck.

Thanks TJ. I ended up gettig a whole new assembly from the wrecker including the pipe that connects to the manifold and simply swaped it out. My one was missing 3 out of 4 screws on the square piece and all three on the round portion which appeared to be spring loaded. Basicly whole thing was falling appart so I figured it was easier to replace it. Cost $45 at the wrecker. I actually took truck back to mechanic who did the HG replacement 2 months ago and he offered to change it out for free as he agreed it should have been caught then when it was easier to get at. Nice touch.
