Poor Acceleration

I am hoping someone can help me with an issue I am having with my 92 4Runner. I bought the truck, which had a blown V6 motor in it, and swapped it for an engine I already had from a previous truck (it ran like a champ!). The good engine had all gaskets done and a full tune-up before install. Once we got it going, we noticed not only that the truck had poor acceleration when on the unusually hard-to-push pedal, but it would also start sputtering. I found out the gas tank was full of rust and went through about 10 strainers before I bought a new tank. Now the tank is on, along with another new strainer. I have tried spraying some wd-40 onto the throttle cable, which makes the gas pedal easier to push for a short time, but the truck still accelerates pretty poorly. It takes a long time to get to just 40mph. Can anyone suggest other things I should be looking at to fix this problem? I hope the details above help. I would highly appreciate any feedback!! Thanks

Assuming you've done the normal tune-up stuff (plugs, wires, cap/rotor). One thing to check is your catalytic converter. Sometimes they get clogged up with higher mile trucks. My truck accelerates super slow too I'm gonna check that out soon
