What are the advantages of Dashmats? What are the best accessories for 4Runners?

Hi Guys,

Just bought myself a 2nd Gen 4Runner (1992) and LOVE it and I've been adding bits and pieces here and there and am considering adding a dash mat.. only.. what's the advantage of a Dashmat? UV protection for the dash? -but then, surely you'd have a 'faded' look from the sun from where the dash mat doesn't cover? – Perhaps an advantage of a dash mat would be that there would be no glare from the dash perhaps?

Any feedback on dash mats and the best accessories for 4Runners would be most appreciated!

Cheers

Ben

Benn1e,

The dashmat does protect from the uv rays. As that is what will cause them to crack if subject to intense heat. I have owned many Toyota's and have not had any issues with cracked dashes. I also don't live in an intense heat area either. No matter what you put on the dash there will still be a glare in the window. A friend of mine has a dashmat on his Tacoma and it has a slight glare in the window from the mat.

Hi Mate, no trouble at all

I'm not sure where your from (Im in Sydney) & I don't know what shops you would have near you, but i checked out the usual haunts here in Sydney (SuperCheap, Repco etc) They were all charging $50, or $65 if i wanted to order in special dashmat colours. For Eg. Supercheap stocks a grey dashmat for my 4Runner by default, but if i wanted a black, green, blue, or Red dashmat (i think that's all the colours that were on offer?) they wanted a further $15 to order them in for me) - also, another thing to note is that Hilux parts of the same year range as your 4Runner will often be interchangeable with your 4Runner. For example, SuperCheap doesn’t stock 4Runner Dashmats, but they do stock Hilux Dashmats, which fit perfectly. Or if you go to the counter such as I did and ask for the 4Runner Dashmats, they’ll point you in the direction of the Hilux Dashmats.

To answer your question, the cheapest dashmats I found were at the local markets for $45, but under Hilux's of the same year model.

Hope that helps,

Cheers
