I got some water in my engine bay and now the truck won't statt, it was on the passenger side and the truck stalled and died when I hit the water. Any ideas what could be wrong?
Chances are that with all the water that went in the engine compt. was turned to steam and got into the distributor. I would take the cap off and make sure there is not any moisture in it. If there is and that is what I would expect to see you can wipe it dry and then spray some WD40 on the entire cap (inside) and put it back on and it should work just fine.
Ok so tried the WD-40 thing and no luck how ever every few times I try to crank my engine its now making a rough grinding sound. I'm thinking starter? Is it possible I drowned it with all the water I was stuck in? Or could it be something else?
I lost control on a gravel road and ended up in the ditch. The ditch was full of water, the truck stalled as aoon as I hit the water and I did not try to start it again until I had been pulled out.
The truck was at a 45 degree angle and the water came up to the door handles. I swapped the starter and it cranks again now, the engine was flooded with gas and I got it to start once but it idled very roughly and smoked heavily from the exhaust and the check engine light and o/d off light were on while it was running
Ok you might want to change the spark plugs, as they may be fouled. You could try to clean them first and put them back in but if it does not run good it may be better time saved to just instal new ones.
Also you might wnat to take a look at the air filter to make sue it is not wet. If it is replace it.
Ok so I changed the spark plugs and the air filter still difficult to start, still smokes very thick white smoke, still idles roughly and the check engine and overdrive light are still flashing.
Hum,,,,, white smoke,,,,,, you may have more problems than just running rough. That sounds like a head gasket or a crack too me. A compression check mignt be in order. How long have you let the engine run when you got it running?
i did a very similar thing on two seperate occasions. one time i cleaned the distributor and it was good on the other occation it was much worse.
first thing i would do is change the oil. if it is milky then you got water in the engine. the best thing to do in that case is to take out the plugs and turn the engine over a few times and it will blow the water out.you should also clean and dry your air filter and dry your intake to make sure you get as much moisture out as possible. then it will run rough but eventually work itself out. if you turned the engine over with water in the cylinders you may have done some real damage though. if it is blowing white smoke out of the exhaust then you probably blew a headgasket. easy way to check this is to start the truck and take the radiator cap off. if there is air being blown out of the radiator cap then the head gasket is done.
