I've recently had a lot of work on my 95 4-Runner: new automatic trans kit, egr value & gasket, oil pan gasket, value cover gasket set...pretty much anything that had to do with a major oil leak. After that service, my truck started hesitating (pretty seriously) in first gear at 2,000 to 2,800 RPM and especially uphill in first gear. I then had a complete tune-up done, and still have the problem.
No issues in higher gears, only first. Uphill is any slight hill. The steeper the hill the worse it is. Any ideas? Been searching the forum and the net and haven't come up with anything. Thanks.

Have you checked for any stored codes in the ECU? My first thought is the TPS (throttle position sensor).

I'll give anything a try. It seems to be getting worse. If I stop on a hill, I have no forward motion to get moving again!!!
