its not incredibly hard to replace that gasket, but it is time consuming. firstdrain the rear end fluid. next remove the rear tires and put the truck on jackstands. then remove the rear driveshaft. you may want to check the u joints at this time. tap on the brake drum and it should fall off, on each side. then unbolt the axle shafts, you may have to disasseble the brakes. slide the axle shafts out about a foot. check the seals to make sure they dont need to be replaced, it is a good idea to just go ahead and replace them now anyway. then take off the bolts that hold the chunk to the housing. make sure and put a jackstand or something on the front so it doesnt fall on your face and kill you. next take the third member out. it weighs about 80 lbs or so, so get ready. once its out get a razor blade and scrape the old gasket off both sides. put rtv silicone on each side of the gasket and assemble in reverse order. it is very difficult to place that third member back in the housing, but if you have a buddy or are up on your weight lifting it is do-able. when you put those axle shafts back in be careful bc there is a sleeve typ thing in the axle that it has to go through, if you hit the side it could knock it out and you would have to dissasemble and start over. make sure when yo are done to fill it back up with new rearend fluid.

i believe i got all the steps, if i forgot something someone correct me

You will have to disconnect the e-brake cables and the brake lines, so you need to bleed the brakes when everything is back together.
When you slide the axle shafts out rest them on some jackstands set at the same height.
Don't let them rest on the axle seal or use that as a pivot point.

have not had chance yet , as i have just bought it i am taking it in to have a major service and a good check over, and i think the rear diff was over filled with oil as it seams to have stopped leaking [i have checked the level]but think i will be having lots of fun in the garage and have a few more questions once a mechanic has gone over it and told me what needs to be fixed !!!!
