steellhead,

Does your rig take a long time to heat up? The temp indication should be just below half way on the kndicator defelction. If it is running cold and not coming up to temp then I would suggest putting a hotter one in otherwise don't fix it if it is not broken.

No, it heats up quick. The thermostat from PO is an 88C/190F kuzeh, is this the proper one or what?
Had to do a head gasket replacement and am wondering if this hotter stat is a possible cause of my blown gasket.

steelhead,

IF you have the 22r-e the opening temp should be between 187-194 deg, and full open at 212 deg.
If you have the 3vz-e then it should start to open at 176-183 deg, and full open at 203 deg.
IF you should have any doughts about the type or condition then you should go to Toyota and buy the right one and all issues should be resolved.

Steelhead,

With the 3vz-e history of overheating, I would not recomend a hotter thermostat.
