91 4Runner

Daughter's 91 4Runner has a problem I cannot identify. She says intermittently when she starts it, it shakes violently (sounds like an airplane she says) and yesterday when it did it, it died. She also said the oil pressure was way down. I knew it had an oil leak but when I went to check on it, it was real low. Put in 2 quarts started right up and drove fine. I don't believe the oil and the violent shaking are related.

Any ideas from you experts? By the way, only 128,000 miles on the vehicle.

When was the last oil and oil filter change?

It is overdue for an oil change but it has been less than 10,000 miles since the last oil and filter change.

I would think that you need to watch the oil a little closer. Down 2 quarts is not a good thing. But it does sound related as when you put the proper amount in the problem went away. I would also recomend only 3,ooo miles between oil changes
