2nd Generation Is It the Tranny???

I drove my, 95 Toyota 4runner Sr5 V6 Auto, fine to the movies last night, when i left i accelerated and it would not go into 2nd gear, but also the RPMs would not redline like it would as if the transmission was slipping, as i drove it would not shift right unless i started slow and then it only got to 2nd gear i could not go past 35 mph, when i tried to drive it as usual a regular amount of pressure on the gas, it would get to second gear and sputter after that if i floor it it would not red line it would just sputter and not accelerate, any advise?

abedog91,

I was thinking maybe contaminated fuel, but maybe not. Last time you changed the fuel filter?

abedog91,

You might try changing the fuel filter and see how it acts.

abedog91,

My thinking is fight one problem at a time. Get the missing fixed then go after the tranny if it is in need of fixing. You might also try some new plugs. Denso or NGK only. No other brand will do.

so0o i went and checked it out again, the 4runner wouldn't start right away it kept turning and turning but not turning over then it got to the point where it would chug, then it got turned on idled low and stalled, then it finally turned over fine and idles fine, i drove it and again it got to second gear but at about 2.5 rpm it starts to chug and wont accelerate past that when i floor it it just chugs the rpms wont go past 2.5 and while in park if i accelerate the rpms climb regular it does sound like an air sputter every so often from the exhaust, i turned off the vehicle, and on a warm start it started up right away regular.
