Thumbs down 97 4 runner leaking coolant? head gasket? help

i have a 97 3.4 v6 4 runner with 175k on the clock. it is leaking coolant from the passenger side rear of the engine. the coolant is dripping into the starter causing the starter to fail. the oil appears to be clean and no extreme signs of unordinary smoke coming from the exhaust. do you think it is the head gasket? and if so how much would that kinda job cost from a mechanic? if not the head gasket what else are the 3.4s known for leaking coolant on the pasenger side thanks in advance for all the help...:he adbang:

The 96 and some 97s where recalled for head gasket problems that presented as external leaks.

You may want to have your VIN checked by a couple of different dealerships to see if it is covered under the recall. If so you might get a free head gasket replacement.
