3rd TPS in 2 Days!!! Why???

Greetings - I'm an old chick with a 1997 4Runner and need some help finding out why a TPS would keep going out???? Monday - Started my vehicle, Tach raced to about 4 and came back down quickly and then the check engine light came on. The drive to work was a bit rough. Later in the day the light went off. Tuesday - same thing but much worse. Went to see my mechanic and he replaced the TPS. Drove 15 miles and it went bad and almost didn't have any power at all. Turned around and went back. He replaced it again. All was well until today....2 days later - it did it again!!! What may be causing the TPS to keep going bad? FYI - the 2 that were installed on Tuesday were after market - today a Toyota TPS is being ordered and installed tomorrow. Any help would be so appreciated!! Thanks!!!

Since your mechanic is doing the work only he knows what the actual CEL code is. Most codes can point to multiple causes so it may not be the TPS that is the problem. Maybe the aftermarket parts he got are junk. If it happens again after the OE Toyota TPS is put on I would think you have other problems besides the TPS.

On a part of that nature I would only instal a Toyota part.
