New to this and so sorry if I am posting wrong...
2002 Toy 4 runner with check engine lights on
Went to Autozone and they gave me codes PO440, po441 and po446 any idea what that means?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Sue
I also have a check engine light giving me codes, P0031, P0037, P0051, P0057, and P102. Toyota is telling me my Viper alarm is causing this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
You may have a low pressure problem in your evaporator system. What I would do is try a new gas cap first.
Should the light go out sfter the gas cap is replaced or do I have to do something else? I replaced the cap while at autozone but lights are still on.
thanks
Did you get a Factory gas cap or one at Autozone. If you got one at autozone, I would recomnend a factory one. I have seen that on more than one occasion here at my dealership. I don't know why, but the aftermarket ones just don't seal right.

I did get an autozone one-if I had gotten a dealer one and that was the problem WOULD THE LIGHTS GO OUT RIGHT AWAY?
THANKS
If it is the gas cap it should take two-three drive cycles for the computer to pick up on it and reset. With your code, and because the gas cap is the easiest, and cheapest thing to start with. If it doesn't reset itself, you can always disconnect the negative battery cable, that will reset the light and if you drive around and it comes back on, you know it isn't the gas cap. The correct Toyota part# is a 77300-08010. After that it can be anything from a VSV to a charcoal canister to a fuel tank(the tank is probable a very long shot and is extremely rare). My other advice too would be, is not to overfill(top off) the fuel tank. These are closed systems and are designed not to emit any fuel vapor into the atmosphere. By topping off, you can prematurely were out the VSV(vacum switching valve) and/or the charcoal canister. I hope it truly is only the gas cap

After my conversation with you this morning I went to school-drove 2 miles there and two miles back-by the time I got home the lights (check engine) are all off.. Guess it was the gas cap-wow seems too good to be true..do you think it is?
thanks
No I don't. The seal in the gas cap does go bad. In fact, many of our check engine light here at the Dealership are simply solved by putting on a new gas cap. That isn't to say that solves them all. I am glad for you that the problem wasn't something more severe or more costly. But if it does come on again, and you find out the code, I'd be more than happy to look it up for you.
The codes referred to oxygen sensor and MAF. I had done the fog light mod and when I took it off all the codes cleared. I had that mod on for over a year and no problem until 2 days ago.
I wish I could help you more on this one. I am not a tech, I do pick up things here and there while working the tech counter. I can't see why all of a sudden you check engine light would come on after you took off the fog lights, but again, I am not a tech.
