Fitting Tires to my 1998 4Runner

Hey guys, I have a 1998 4Runner SR5 with 16" rims.
My tires are almost done and I was hoping I could fit 15" rims as I have a full set of 5 Bridgestone Dueler AT tires that are brand new from my Jeep.

On the door jam it lists 15" rims but I have only seen my Runner with 16s.

First off, do you think I would be able to fit 15s over the calipers?
Secondly, how would 31x10.5 tires do on this thing, how close to stock is that? I currently have under sized tires on my SR5.

I was under the impression that 265/75-16 are about 30.5x10.5.

Thanks

If your 4runner came with 16" wheels, 15" will not fit over the calipers. 265/70-16 is the stock size the 16" wheels came with and it's basically 31". 265/75-16 is about 32". 265/75-16 should fit a stock 4runner with no (or barely any ) rubbing. I would sell the Bridgestones and buy 16" tires. Either way you are going to have to buy tires or wheels. Unless you plan on using your Jeep wheels and they have the right bolt pattern spacing and backspacing...?

I guess I am trying to get the cheapest option at the moment.
I can find a set of 5 rims for around $250, each of my tires cost $230 when I bought them.
They only have 1000kms on them and I know I cannot get what I paid if I sell and get another set with 16s.

I do not know what the came with, I got the truck a year ago, they sticker says 15s, the tires on the truck are tiny and the spare is a 265/70-16 Dueler HT so I honestly have no clue what I have or what it had.

I think most if not all 4runners say 15" on the door jam but they really came with 16". Go to the place you want to get the rims from and see if they will bolt a new rim up and make sure it fits.

It's not a question of whether the tires will fit over the calipers, but will the rim. Need to find out if the backspacing and bolt pattern for the rims will fit your 4Runner.

I understand, I will not be using Jeep rims.

I wanted to ask if anyone has fit stock 15" 6 bolt gen 2 runner or taco rims onto their 3rd gen runner.

Rod84,

When your rig was purchased new it had as an option with the 16" wheels and tires. I have seen this on some rigs where they had the 16" rims put on but did not change the rotor or caliper size from 15 to 16. The caliper should have the size stamped on it somewhere. I would check that first before you get excited about what needs to be changed. Because if it has not been changed to 16" you won't have any problem changing it to 15". Hope this helps.
