Skid plate bolts

The threads on the bolts to my skid plate are rusty and disappearing. I think I have 4-5 left holding up that will still thread through. I want to get the skid plate on tight to see if its what's causing a rattle.

What do I get to replace them?

Hmm... I think the nuts are welded in place are they not? Can you tap them a size bigger and get new bolts?

The nuts are welded in place but I'm thinking the threads in those are fine.

Every time I take the skid plate off I end up throwing away a bolt because the threads have rusted away and it wont snug up.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good replacement for those bolts. Type & size. Or if I should just go hit up the dealership for some.

Sorry I misread the original post. Yep I had a stripped bolt on mine when I first bought it. I found a bolt in my tool box that was the same size and metric thread and forced it in to tap the threads. Sorry though I'm not sure of the metric size. I'd just take one of the old good ones and match it up. Make sure to get one that's high strength steel.

#2,

When you get new bolts use some anti sieze on the threads so they won't rust. And use the lock washers as stated by toyotahalic, and you might need one size longer to accept the lock washer.

Wait, sorry, I meant 8mm. 12mm is the hex size-wrench size.

chuckoff,

You could just tape the hole to the next common size if none of the other ideas work.

Not my vehicle.., There may not be enough material thickness in the weld nuts to go oversize.
