Talking Starter contact replacement.

My freind has a 96 4 runner, and was told his contacts were bad in his starter. Since I was successful in replacing them in my Avalon... he wants me to do it. Does anyone have a step by step diagram on how to get to it? Once I get it off I'm sure it's pretty easy. Any help appreciated.

You can get to the starter from the right wheel well or underneath the truck. I chose the latter and unbolted the sway bar from the frame to get some more room to maneuver my arms and tools. I didn't actually remove the starter from the engine bay. I just unbolted it and then moved it around so I could access the solenoid. That way I didn't have to worry about moving/removing the transmission dipstick, brake lines or exhaust manifold.

In addition to the link cited above, I found these others to be the most helpful:

Good general info on similar work: http://www.tacomaterritory.com/boophoenix/starter.html
