Automatic Transmission Problem...

I was driving on the freeway 3 months ago on a downhill slope. Traffic wasn't bad it was moving along well really. When all of a sudden I hit the throttle a bit and the engine didn't seem to respond I heard, saw and felt my RPMs move higher without acceleration. I exited off to a gas station and parked there.

The problem is that the transmission will NOT engage. L, 2nd, D, or R. Nothing.
The engine is running, yes, but for some reason the power will not transfer to the rear wheels.

My father and I have checked the fluid and have drained and refilled, even changed the filter. Anyone have an explanation? Any good-minded feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

On a side note, in case anyone is wondering how I exited off the freeway, it was a good thing that I was on a downhill slope. I used inertia to bring the vehicle into the gas station.

If your tranny fluid levels were at the correct level my first guess would be solenoids. Did you get a check engine light when this happened, or before? If not a solenoid I would think it's something more serious.

Eh, well I recall that it did have a check engine light on, but that was probably due to a key copy defect. When I would switch between the original and new copy key I would get a check engine light with the copy key and not the original. I also had my house copy key not functioning right. It wouldn't open my front door. Note that both copy keys were made at Lowe's. If it's Lowe's or a sloppy employee's fault I don't know.

Although, we had just drove the 4Runner to San Francisco and back, with some scenic routes and such. Even Took a wrong turn and almost went to Oregon when we tried going back to Cali. We enjoyed the greener vegetation and large scenery too much notice. That was about a 3 or 2 weeks ago from this incident. Good thing the transmission didn't give out at that time.
