Limited Slip Info Please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Was the only limited slip option on a 3rd Generation an E-Locker, or did they have a mechanincal LSD? My axle code is A03A, so that makes it a 4:11 gear. I'm not opposed to an E-locker, but are there any modifications I have to do to make this work, minus a switch and the ECU? Were the E-lockers only in a 4:30 geared 4runner. I've heard the bolt pattern for the 3rd member was different on an E-locker, so I need to find out before I get too deep into this. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

The E-locker was the only option.. Not only is the third member/axle housing bolt pattern different, the opening for the third member is different (there's a notched out section to make room for the actuator mechanism)..

It is possible to rework the axle housing to relocate the two bolts that are in a different location and notch out the opening. This would have to be an operation with the axle out from under the vehicle. Here is a link to an article about doing this modification: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/

Another, easier option would be to go with the ARB locker.. Article on installing the ARB: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/arb_locker/

According to the 2000 year 4Runner sales literature, the E-locker was available only in the 4:30 gear ratio.

Thank you dandeman!!!!!!!! I found a correct 3rd member out of an identical 98 I'm going to replace mine with. The carrier bearings are toast and it got the ring gear as well. The one I pull out will probably get an aftermarker LSD, ring gear, and all new bearings. Thanks again!
