transmission differance between 4cyl and 6cyl

Just pick up my 99 auto 4x4 4cyl 4runner the other day.

I plan on doing a full fluid change , tune up etc.
Ive owned manuals all my life , this is my first auto so bare with me. Is the auto transmission the same on the 4cyl and the 6cyl ?

reason I ask is I found this write up , and love the details and pics.

Will it be the same process on my trans? (since the O.P. of the link I posted had a 3.4 vs my 2.7 )

maxspeed96ct,

It's a well written step by step. Your tanny should be very similar. By reading that article and looking at your rig you should be able to figure out what needs to come off to get to the tranny pan. Good Luck.

thanks, I bought a hanyes manual last night. Its seems as if both transmissions are the same or very similar.

I plan on doing a complete fluid change - engine, trans, transfercase and rear end.

Prolly wont be till after the holidays, It didnt hit me till I added it to my cart online how much 16 bottles of atf fluid costs. lol

I also plan on using por15 on the frame and other parts under the car. Unless theres something better out but from what ive read por 15 is the shiiet...

I just got rid of my 94 pickup a few months ago due to frame rot even though the body looked mint.

...but the frame

This pic is with some iorn me and my buddie welded up, I drove it like this for a year, then I noticed the metal I welded to was on its way out. so I just called it quits

My future plans for the 4runner are a small lift and some wheels

Any other suggestions for a new owner at 122k?
