Help 99 4runner 4wd lights on stuck in 4wd!!!

Dont know what is going on with my 4wd system. Just purchaced the truck and noticed that it needed some work on a heating tube cracked so repaired it with new timing belt and replaced the 4wd fuse and now I can not get out of 4wd High.. it will go into low 4wd but not 2wd..ugggg.. lights blinking on dash for the 4wd sytem...push button does not work! Help!!

You might try to get rolling then coast and then try to get it out of 4wd. Do that in both reverse and fwd. It may take a few tries to get it out but it should come out that way. And the reason is that just stopping and trying to get it out there is a preload on the trasfer case and it will not come out. So the coasting will relieve the t-case which will allow you to get it out. Do this in a parking lot so you don't get in the way of other motorists.

ok will do thank but that still doesnt explain while the lights are flashing like a xmas tree..

Clububl,

It is flashing because you initially tried to get it out and it did not respond. The light is telling you that you are in limbo on the system. You need to either be in or out there is no in-between. The computer knows you have selected it off and it did not respond, and until you get it either in or out the light will blink letting you know that it is out of sync.
