Thumbs up

Sounds like a deal to me, ask if the timing belt was changed, might be able to haggle the price if it wasn't. I recently picked up a 96 limited 4x4 with 176k on it, put 7k on it so far, runs like a champ, as long as the previous owner did all the regular maintenance I'd say go for it. Good luck, hope it checks out and you drive it home.

jblazy18,

You need to know when that T belt was done. That will be your biggest job for now. As long as you do the proper maintenance and oil changes there is no reason why you should not get over 300,000 miles on it. And hopefully more.

ill keep you guys updated then and submit some pics if i do end up picking it up. Ive done tons of research on this year 4runner but just wanted to know from people who have had them before. ill ask them if they have any records of it being done and if not then ill definitely use that in the bargaining.

I've got a '98 Limited...3.4l, six-banger 4x4, and it's the best vehicle I've own. Last month...I proudly went over the 200,000 marker...and she's still going strong. So far...I've had no major issues other than having to put in a new starter at 180,000.

It's been maintained flawlessly, and it still hums...almost like the day we got her...

Yours hasn't even reached it's mid-life crisis yet!

Yes...had the timing belt replaced...

There's nothing about that deal that I don't like. $5800 is a rock-solid deal, and I just ran through the carfax...and there's nothing there that even remotely concerns me. That's a well-maintained vehicle.

You got him to give you out the door at 5800...which is saving a good bit of cash...5-600 at least. There may have been more wiggle room there...but regardless...

You got a good deal...

A friend of mine just bought a 2000 limited with 140,000 to the tune of 7,500. I mean...this thing looks like it just came off the line...but...

that should give you a good idea on your deal...

Welcome to the club...and like I said...your car isn't even to it's mid-life crisis yet...

Now I wouldn't low-ball him...but I might walk in there and say...5,000 or 5200 out the door.

If he immediately went to an out the door price lower than his initial price + doc, title and tags...

...then he'll likely go down more. You'll have to read him though.

I'd probably go lower...don't offend him though...

He's not going to want to keep the vehicle on the lot...

jblazy18,

He is basically given you a price between fair and good condition with the 5800 out the door. I would offer him 5600 out the door and see what he says. You can always pay the 5800 it is still a good deal.

here's how it broke down... he has it on the lot for $5.9k i went in there and he said he'll knock off $800 so he'll go to $5,100 which is fair i think. Then State tax on that is 7% which comes to $357. Then transferring plates is $125. Then his fees brought it to $5800. I can go the extra $800, my reasoning in my mind is.. no matter who i buy from, state tax is inevitable, transferring the plates is the same price, its just the dealer fees that differ, but no matter what dealer i go to... theres their fees.... only if i dont buy from a dealer i wont pay those fees, but this thing has been meticulously maintained that i cant pass it up.. water pump, belt, and rear shocks all replaced fairly recently... is my reasoning far off?...
