1999 Questions

Daughter had an accident last week and insurance totaled her Jeep Cherokee. She is looking for another comparable SUV. One of the ones we found on Autotrader.com is a '99 4-Runner with 205000 miles, 6cyl/auto, 2WD. We have not gone to see it yet so I ask is there anything special or unique to the '99 that we should be on the look-out for? Are there known areas of concern?

This is a private seller not a dealer and is asking $3995.

Third gen 4Runners have been pretty bulletproof.. I would try to find out how well it has been maintained, especially fluid changes and maintenance items such as timing belt changes..

As part of timing belt changes, water pumps may be replaced if they show signs of minor weeping..

All transmissions these days tend to run hot, so changing of ATF fluid is important.

The rear axle seals have been known to leak, not a big deal to change the seal, but look underneath for any oil signs around the rear brakes..

owner, 2000 4Runner with 130,000, mint condition..
