Gas mileage and Preformance Mods

Hello, I recentley registered on toyota nation that I found out about from a buddy. I have a couple of questions that I have not found.

I have a 2001 Toyota 4-Runner Limited, 3.4 V-6

I am looking for some preformance mods that are not too spendy but effective! I have had a couple of people steer me towards a K&N OEM filter but I have also been told that they are not as good as they seem? What would you reccommend? Also I have seen or heard about owners purchacing a JET chip programmer that allows you to adjust throttle response and fuel economy? is this a rip? also with a filter can I install a deck plate to add better flow vs spending alot on a intake? Are the intakes good? what about fuel mileage?? What would cause a decrease it? I have put royal purple in my front and rear differentals? what can i do? and also what about the 02 sensor and when do I know when to replace and is there somewhere I can purchace that is cheaper than the dealer?? but still OEM?

Thanks and God Bless/

One thing to remember when you install a cold air intake or a K&N filter, More air in = more fuel used to keep a proper air fuel ratio.

Just keep on top of the maint. and make sure your tires are properly inflated. Remove any unnecessary weight that you may have inside the vehicle and if you're not using any roof-top accessories, take them off since it's just extra wind resistance that will slow you down. Also, don't put oversized wheels and/or tires on there as it's just extra rotational weight that really hurts your fuel economy. If you don't go offroad, don't put A/T's on your 4runner. You're not going to use them for what they were intended and they likely weigh more.

Replace the air filter with a Clean OE filter and make sure you're plugs are replaced as they should be. If your plug wires are old, replace them too. Keep on top of the oil changes, diff services, and transmissions services. That will treat you the best.

hate&Fate has some good pointers.Another good mention is your driving habits.people who put on cole intakes usually complain of worse milage because there right foot is in the floor listening to the cool new noise their rig makes now smoother acceleration and less rpms will always result in better milage gains
