3rd Generation 2002 4Runner

I was wondering if anybody has any experience with Error code P1135. Took it to the dealer because the engine light was coming on. Kicked out this code. Dealer "recommended" replacing the Bank 1 Sensor, Air Fuel Ratio Sensor and Spark Plugs, Air Filter and PCV Valve.
I sense that the dealer is just "guessing" because the spark plugs were replaced at 45K, now has 74K.
Can anyone weigh in on their experience with this code and if one or both sensors need to be replaced and how easy is it to DIY.

Thanks in advance.

blrmkr,

I would start out by replacing the air fuel ratio sensor bank 1 which should be the most forward sensor on your exhaust system. Its not hard to replace just need a few patience. I would go with a Denso type they are very reliable. Stay OEM don't go with a generic type that way you will not have to spice wires, just plug and go. That should fix your issue.

jetwhine,

Ordered a denso O2 sensor (234-9002)from Rockauto which was a direct replacement for the forward most sensor. Easily installed it yesterday, drove a little bit and the warning lights went out.

Thank you sir.
