How many miles is too many to supercharge?

Hello I have a 2000 4Runner Limited 3.4 with 160K miles on it. I'm towning a boat of approximately 2400 lbs with it, but wanting to pull a new boat weighling 3400 lbs. The factory tow rating is 4100, however I live in a hilly part of North GA and at times the pedal is to the floor and I'm only moving at 20 MPH. So I'm scared it won't pull the new boat up those same hills.

My first thoughts are to buy another vehicle, but then I saw that TRD has a SC for around $3-4K. Obviously, supercharging would be cheaper than a new truck, right, but I have some concerns about the high mileage. Though considering the low amount of increase in the HP, I'm wondering if it would be OK. Any thoughts or any of you out there with experience?

Thanks

ChampN203,

Right off the get go I think of head gaskets. That would be my concern because of the increase in manifold pressure.

Super-charging and turbo-charging both put a lot of stress on an engine.
Putting that kind of pressure on a worn high mileage engine is asking for premature failure.

1998 Limited 4WD----TRD SC bolted at 145K and today I have 211K. I also pull a boat and this was why I bought the SC. It is how a dual overhead al head eng should run! Just don't keep your foot in it between 1-2 shift and you will be allll raaaaghht.
You will probably have preignition issues from time to time and will have to run 93 octane. Check out gadgetonline.com for suggestions with preignition. DOOOooo IT!!!! I would like to SC my next 4runner when I get there. By the way I only smoke 3-series once or twice a year and try not to make a habit of it to save the trans. Get a cooler by the way, it will prolong the life of the trans....mine did!
Good luck
