Super Stiff Throttle

Just bought a 1997 4runner. I drove my neighbors 2000 4runner and noticed when you press the gas pedal in, the 2000 4runner is much easier to press in. My 1997 model is very stiff. Is this a common problem with 1997 models? I tried spraying wd40 in the cable and have thoroughly checked the cable and everything looks and feels good.

mibpf,

You might want to disconnect the cable from the throttle body and from the pedal and see if the pedal is free and see if the throttle body is free. It they are you can take the cable off and soak it in oil or just replace it. But you need to know what is dragging before replacing parts.

My 97 has a pretty stiff pedal too. Just haven't taken the time to figure out why. I honestly don't even notice it anymore unless I drive the avalon for a few days.
