3rd Generation Timing Belt Replacement

2000 4Runner SR5 V-6 original timing belt changed at 93K miles. Current mileage 163K. I intend to keep this truck forever, so what are the intervals for belt change?
Another question: is this a non-interference engine?

W Mike S,

Usually about 90K, You will be due at 180K. It is listed as an interference engine.

Some websites list the 3.4 as an interference engine but it is a non-interference engine.

And yes the recommended interval for changing the timing belt is 90K but they can go waaaay past that. From what I've seen on the web and how mine looked at 110K miles I would think you could go at least 120K if not further.

The water pump is more worrisome. Once it starts leaking the timing belt could get contaminated. But.. I've heard of water pumps lasting over 180K mile so...?

I just changed my timing belt and I plan on going at least 120K miles before I do it again.

Here check this link LOL

My Bad,

I had a brain fart and was thinking of the 3.0L sorry. The 3.4L is indeed a non interference engine.
