Need Schooling: looking for a 3rd gen 4Runner

So school me guys, I don't know much about these, been doing a little bit of research here and there but I figured who else to ask but the actual owners.

I'm looking at buying a third gen 4runner, so far I'm looking at a 98 SR5 V6 with 239000km which is in the lower price range, as well as a 2002 4Runner Badlands edition with 187000km which is on my high (over I think ) price range.

The 98 is second owner vehicle, no rust and well taken care of, seems like a pretty straight car and definitely worth what the owner is asking. I have gone to look at it and did not get a chance to drive it yet, will probably go back today with the wife to do so.

The 02 Badlands is also amazing in shape, it's been lift leveled, has decent tires and a second set of off-road tires, apparently it's absolutely clean and well taken care of, I have not seen it or seen pictures of the interior, still waiting on those, it's located about 4-5hrs away from me so this stops me from looking at it in person, but I would definitely go for it.

So what should I look for, anything in particular I should lookout for on these trucks?? I'm a truck noob.

Thanks!

It's hard to compare w/o knowing a bit more info about both, like what engine, trans (auto or manual), 2wd or 4wd, etc.
But everything being equal, newer and lower mileage is always better.
Another question would be, if it's 4wd, what do you want it for, bad weather DD or wheeling vehicle?
