Timing Belt Replacement/Radiator Questions

Hi; I have a '99 4Runner (2WD 4-Cyl) with about 180K miles. I have not had the timing belt replaced; when I called yesterday to get a quote from a mechanic with great reviews, I was told they have timing CHAINS that don't need to be replaced unless they fail-the same with the water pump. Is this accurate?

It has started squealing when I turn it on, so I'm assuming this is an AC belt? Twice I have turned it on (only when it was hotter over the summer) after having it off for a few minutes while running into a store to get something, or pumping gas, it won't start. Power is fine, but engine does not turn. After waiting for 20-25 minutes, starts up without a problem. Could this be radiator related, as I have heard a hissing sound from under the hood while waiting for the 20-25 minutes to pass?

Chain needs no replacement, but your water pump does though. Squealing probably caused by loose belt tensioner, have that check out. Hissing sound most likely the charcoal canister working, no need to worry about it.

cacelis,

Your starter might be breaking down under heat from hot engine. It could be your starter showing signs of an eminante failer.
