Gen5 1999 4Runner limited 5VZ help

Hello all,

A friend of mine has a '99 4Runner Limited with the 5VZ (about 150,000 miles) and has had problems with squirrels chewing through wires under the hood. He took it to Toyota to find out how much to replace the harness that goes from the firewall area all the way to the headlight area on the drivers' side. Somethimes the headlights work and everything else (electrical) works and sometimes not. Anyway, they quoted him $1,000 for the harness. Would anyone know what exactly it is called and maybe where to get it cheaper? Any help would be greatly appreaciated. Sorry for the long post.

You could visit a junkyard and pull the whole harness yourself. It is rarely just a harness from the firewall to the headlight. I havent seen something like that since AE86 Corollas. Most of that harness also connects somewhere on the inside of the car. I would say a junkyard is the best way to go but it is probably much easier to simply fix the chewed wires properly than replace the whole harness.
