CEL & shaking during idle & low speeds

I have a 2000 Toyota 4runner and my check engine light turned on for the first time. I've noticed that lately my car shakes when I'm in idle or I slow down. I took it to a mechanic and after checking the codes they replaced the air filter, fuel filter and the spark plugs. The check engine light went away for about a day but then came back, the shaking never changed. I really don't want to spend any more money for lack luster results. Any suggestions for what may be the cause? Any help much appreciated!!

You need to get the codes read to see what exactly is going on. Either buy a code reader for $40 or more depending on how nice you want it to be or take it to an autoparts store that will read the codes for you.

I'm betting it's a misfire code.

Erick19,

I agree with kball, you need to know what code/codes you have before you can troubleshoot. I suspect that it migt be related to the EGR system. That is just a guess and not a confirm without the codes. Get the codes and we might be able to help, without it/them it is just a shot in the dark.
