Question morning lope

I have a friend with a 99' 4runner. he told me that sometimes in the morning his engine has a slight lope to it before it has warmed up. i have a 97 but it does not do this. is this a common problem, is it detramental, what can be done about it?

JUst off of the top of my head the thing that comes to mind first is maybe the maf needs to be cleaned with the maf cleaner in the spray can. That does wonders for the idle. It needs to be removed to clean it properly. Disconnect the negative battery cable before removing the plug so you don't set any codes in the computer.

lope means that it will slightly rev then drop then slightly rev then drop, just on the plus or minus side of the prferred idle speed
