brake caliper question

hello gang,

is it possible to run 15inch rim caliper and rotor setup on a 4wd 4runner that has the 16in rim caliper setup? i have two cars in the shop that owners want to do a swap for Wheel clearance. the other one is a tacoma that wants to put on Tundra calipers but i posted that in the tundra/tacoma section

so is it possible? there running 15inch rims on the 16in caliper setup. so they run spacers now but they want to swap calipers to clear the rim now

Most 4runner owners think the 16" caliper brakes are subpar. Moving down to the 15" setup would make it horrible I would think. It's probably possilble to do the swap but I've never heard of anyone doing it. Most do the Tundra upgrade to their runners like you say your Tacoma customer wants to do.

I would say stick with the spacer and larger brakes.

xurusaibobx,

Most of the older stock 4runners came with 15 inch wheels. I would not think that it would be a problem with the exchange as long as they bolt on. Have never tried this so I don't know if it is a turn key operation. As kball has indicated the Tundra would be the right upgrade. You might want to talk to your customer and tell him that. He might change his mind. And yes the lager brake on a smaller rim size would give you more stopping power but would require the spacer.
