4WD help

Good morning everyone,
I have an 98 Limited 3.4 4x4. My issue is this... my 4x4 indicator light is on but the 4x4 is not engaged. Any ideas why???

Try to check switch transfer (differential) lock indicator maybe some of wire connectors is rusty, located on below your vehicle on upper left side on your transmission

The way the system is designed, it's not easy for the 4WD indicator to light without it really being in 4WD.
The front axle has to lock, the t-case has to shift, etc.
Is this in HI and LO ranges? and what makes you think it isn't working?
auto or manual trans?

Ima4runnergal,

I agree with fourwd1. The only way I can think that could happen is that the front locker might be broken and engaging to turn the switch on to light the light but broken as far as not engaging the front axle.
