Have you checked for engine malfunction codes?

Sounds to me like something is not plugged in or you messed up the MAF when you cleaned it. How did you clean it by the way? Hopefully not with Q tips....

The symptom of a bad MAF or one that's not plugged in is what your truck is doing. Starts then dies soon after. I would check the electrical plug on the MAF and make sure the wires and connectors look good. Unplug it and plug it back in. When your friend comes over check the codes and see if it is throwing one for the MAF. Are you sure everything is installed back correctly? Vacuum lines etc..?

Rudy4runner,

You may need a complete new maf. The sensor may not be the problem, it may be something internal to the MAF. I believe those a heated and you may have fouled up the wire element by cleaning it.

Check for a cracked air intake hose from air box to throttle body.
