Hello, im new to the off road scene so please bare with me. I tried doing a search and couldnt find any info and where and what type of lift kit to buy, so would someone be able to tell me where i can purchase one for the best price and what kind to get. Im looking to lift it 3"-6" can someone tell me what i would need, like shocks and diff drops ect. and what the price difference are with the hight difference. Also, would i need to replace the shocks for just a 3" lift? thanks
P.S if someone has a used set thats still in good shape for sale, i would be very interested
You can only go up 3" on the suspension lift in the front. Otherwise you could end up with CV joint issues. You can go up to around 5" or so in the rear. Body lifts are available up to 2" I believe. So a 5" lift in the front is doable (3" suspension + 2" body lift).
Yes, you will need new shocks to go with the lift. It will limit your down travel if you keep the stock shocks.
man these kits are pricey, cant i just buy some spacers with a front diff drop off ebay and some decent after market shocks?? with a 3" lift will i be able to use 35" tires without rubbing?? also, is the body lift hard to do??

Yes you can go with spacers. I believe the Toytec site sells them and so does Humanoids Wheelers link. The spacers will sag your already worn out old springs and the ride will be poor from what I've heard. Most people who get spacers end up redoing their lift and getting new coilovers but it's up to you.
I haven't done a body lift. Most people say it isn't too bad. ??
35's? Let's put it this way. For 35's you're going to need the 3" suspension lift, a body lift and you will have to trim and pound certain areas to make them fit. Oh and you will need wheel spacers too otherwise the tires will hit the UCA.

If you are able to fit the 35's on, what gear ratio are you planing on re-gearin the diffs to?

i wasnt planning on re-gearing the rear diffs, why would i have to?? i was actually planning on welding them to lock the rear diff up. but not gonna go with 35's, just gonna go with 265/75r16

I've bought 5 body lifts for different rigs over the past 10 years. He's a great guy and you can make virtually any height you want. I did 1.25" body lift on my 99 4runner and it worked perfect with the 285/75/16s.

When you move to a taller tire it causes the engine to operate out of it's power band, resulting in a loss of power and MPG. The taller the tire the greater the change. And going from stock to a 35" tire is a big change. Just something to keep in mind.
it works, a dude with a 4runner just like mine did it. but its not recommended if you drive the vehicle on the road, which i just plan on using for off road and will be getting it there by trailer. i think its better then spending a thousand bucks on a LSD
The "Lincoln locker" (welded diff) is in place of a spool. A spool is stronger and generally around $100 and removes the spider gears completely. There's no disadvantage for on road driving beyond you will burn through tires about twice as fast. I had a spool in my old Toyota for about 2 years.

so instead of welding the rear diff to lock it, i can buy a spool and that will lock it as well?? where can i buy this spool for around $100?? also can someone tell me if a lift kit for a toyota tacoma would fit a 4runner in the same year range?? thanks
