05 4runner Spark Plug Torque

Does anyone have the torque spec for an 05 4runner SR5 V6 (taken from a manual such as Haynes, Chilton's, or the Toyota Shop Manual)? I have seen threads that ranged from 13 ft/lbs. to 18 ft/lbs, but neither discussed their source.

Also, apparently I am an idiot. I have been lulled into thinking all modern vehicles need plug replacement at approx. 100k. Apparently my truck requires them at 30k...I am at 94k without a change. It still runs fine altough I have noticed some vibration at speeds around 35-40mph at 1200 RPM. I don't know if it is related, but feels like vehicle lacks power. My wife drives so I am not sure if this has always been like that or not...dealer claims it is normal.

Anyway, can it cause any engine damage due to my plugs being so overdue for a change...or would worn plugs just manifest in bad performance without any long term damage?

Thanks

TB

I can't recall the source either, but I've read on other forums that it should be 14 ft/lbs. I believe that changing the plugs out will help with the lack of power and vibes you/your wife have been experiencing.

Make sure you use only DENSO or NGK. In your owners manual in the back it will list the 2 plug types and there numbers. Do not deviate from these 2 numbers. Don't let the parts guy say that he can cross reference the plug to something that he might have thats a no no. Keep looking for the right plug. It will save you a headace later. If you know this already sorry, if you don't, heed the warning. Toyota's don't like other types of plugs.

The FSM for the 2008 1GR-FE (V6) 4Runner lists the spark Plug Torque as 15 Ft-Lbs. The bolt for the ignition coil assembly is torqued to 7 Ft-Lbs.

The spark plugs are deep down in the cylinder head assembly. I use a magnetic pickup tool to help remove and install the plugs. A good rubber grip plug socket might work too. You will need a long socket extension to reach the plugs.

The driver's side will require you to loosen and rotate a metal support bracket to reach the back two plugs. It's not hard and takes a 10 mm wrench or socket. The passenger side is easy; just remove the air cleaner for access.

Don't be surprised if the drivers side has NGK and the passenger side has Denso plugs. It seems that Toyota spreads the wealth around among their suppliers.

Use a flat head screwdriver to assist in removing the ignition coil wire harness. Remove the bolt holding the coil then twist and pull. The coil will come right off. The plugs will be down in the cylinder head assembly.

Hey guys... over here from the Tacoma forum... I'm sure you know we use the same 1GR-FE engine, so changing plugs should be the same. It's not hard to do, but for anyone not familiar with it, here's a couple of detailed threads with lots of pics:
