2003 with no roof rack/rails??

I'm looking at a 2003 SR5 but it has no roof rails whatsoever (it looks quite nasty without them - totally clean roof).

Does anyone know if they are removable, or if some 4runners did not come with them? In other words, are the rails easy to add-on?

I ask because this truck is a long drive away and a good deal, but without a roof rack, I can't use it.

Don't know of anyone who has added them, but without them the vehicle will be quieter. You might consider aftermarket roof racks or places life Thule, Yakima, or similar that have custom tailored removable devices for mounting whatever you'd like. I've used mine 3 times in 7 years, but I can hear the road noise from it almost daily.
