transmission fluid change but no dipstick

HI

I have a 2006 4runner but no transmission dipstick. How would I go about doing a transmission fluid drain and fill on a transmission without a dipstick? Any ideas? Or is this best left for the dealers.

In the past, I've changed the tranny fluid on my 2002 Camry all the time, but that one had a dipstick.

There's a fill plug on the side and an overflow plug on the underside of the pan.

adding a cooler question

I will be adding a transmission cooler to my 2007 4runner. I was told that it had a tow package when i bought it but it does not have the external cooler so I am adding it before I get the fluid flushed. I am hoping there is an easy way to get the fluid level close enough by just adding the amount that the new cooler will take up when the vehicle is running.

Can I just measure the volume of the cooler by filling it, recording the amount it takes to fill it and add this additional amount to the fill port on the transmission? If not, what else can I do to avoid the temp measurement and dribble method of checking the fill. This vehicle does not have a dipstick.

On a related topic, I might do the flush myself and have read various methods online. I am thinking of another method that might work and want to know if people have tried this and or think that it might work.

The plan is to make a container with a bubber bladder partition between the sides. Not sure what material I might use for the bladder but it will need to be very flexible. Ideally the container will be transparent so I might make it out of heavy lucite. There will be a hose connection on each side of the container, one for fluid from the transmission and one for the return. The bladder will separate the two sides but allow the pressure of the incoming fluid to push the new fluid out with the same pressure and rate just as if it was flowing through. There will also be fill and empty ports so you can empty the side that get filled with old fluid and add new fluid to the side that supplies it.

The container could be solid metal which would be easier, something like an old fire extinguisher or soda syrup can would work but I would need to figure out a way to determine when the flow stopped or was about to. Haven't figured this out yet but something like a site glass might work if installed properly.
