Rust stains around door handles.

Hello,

My 05 white runner has developed what I think are rust stains around the exterior rear door handles. They show up well on my white paint. When you look at the handle it appears to be white plastic that pivots (hinges) out on the part facing the front of the vehicle while the back part lifts out to open the door. I am speaking of the two passenger doors and not the rear liftgate door. Mechanically, they work fine….just describing what I see to indicate the stained area. Anyway, the handle has a black gasket like plastic piece between it and the door. The rust stains appear to be coming from under this bezel and only on the rear part of the rear door handles. Truck has 75k on it and has always been driven in northwest Pennsylvania.

Any one else have this and any ideas on prevention? I can take a pic if that makes it any easier.

Pardon my lack of "Netiquette" as a new baby for my wife and I has limited my time on the net. I did a bit of searching for others with my problem and found this link from a guy with the exact same problem as mine. I haven't performed his repairs yet (seems like alot of trouble) but I might eventually.
