Don't trust Quicky Lubes!!

I purchased a 4Runner new from the dealer and for the first 15k miles had them perform the LOF service. Out of convenience, the past 30K has been done by Jiffy Lube. While searching posts for another issue I noticed a thread about a "thumping" when starting from a stop. Hey, I got that same problem but had just written it off as age. After following the advice about proper lubrication of the drive line, low and behold the thumping is gone! Seems the quicky lube guys must not be schooled correctly. One can only wonder how many vehicles have been screwed up by these guys? Anymore it's 50 bucks out the door when they service your vehicle. So, out of curiosity, I called the Toyota dealer for a price to change the oil, around $37. It's back to the dealer for me unless I do it myself. Just hope there wasn't any permanent damage done? Something to think about.

I would never trust Jiffy Lube places, especially with a new vehicle or a car you actually care about. Any way, in this case, I don't think they are at fault. Even some toyota dealers don't know about the "fix" and you have to use the right amount of lube in the drive shaft before the "thump" goes away. Yes, I would never take to Jiffy Lube for any cars I care about, but I would say in this case, they are not at fault.

Good luck on getting out the door at the dealer for that $37. The reason it is so low is to be able to up-sell you on all the other things you may need, at dealer installed prices. Find a trust worthy independent shop and you will be far better off. The dealers and chain places are the Wal-Marts of the auto repair business, seeking to put the mom and pop shops out of business.
