4th Generation Trans Lurch shifting Rev to Drive

Hello,

I have a 2005 4runner V6 with 5 speed auto trans 4wd SR5 with 79k. Recently wife has noticed that when backing out of parking spot, applying the brakes, then shifting into Drive, the trans takes a second or two to engage into drive. This only happens occassionally so I can't reproduce the problem myself. She said that she pushes the throttle and car revs up like in neutral, then it kicks in and lurches forward. Almost like the engagement from reverse to drive takes longer than normal and it hangs in between gears or in neutral for a few moments.
When it does happen I think it's usually when motor is cold but I'll inquire more. My scope of knowledge of this transmission is limited but knowing it's electronically shifted, I might think something like a slowly activating soloniod? Open to any suggestion of course.

Thanks,
Ted

waterskier_erie,

The slow solenoid sounds likely to me. Maybe a trans flush might be a fix. If not then I would say that the solenoid might need to be cleaned. Just a couple of thoughts.
