Unhappy Brakes done-now noise-help

I got my brakes done a couple of weeks ago at Les schwab. After picking it up I noticed a clank sound on the drivers side front when I went over a bump. A few days later, when I would drive from a cold start, there began a clank clank clank noise drivers side as the tire rolled, which stopped when the brakes were applied. This has been happening off and on since the brakes were done. Not every time. Also, this particular thing only lasts for about the first minute or two of driving, then goes away. The clank over bumps happens all the time. Also, today I notice when I apply the brakes that there is a clank sound. This also does not happen every time. By clank in all the above, I mean it sounds like metal hitting metal. I took it back to schwab today and they said they could not see anything obvious. They made me schedule an appointment this afternoon so they can take another look. My boyfriend said you guys are all very knowledgeable and might know what's going on. Id appreciate any input or ideas on what you think might be going on. Car was fine before the brake job. 2003 4 runner. Thanks in advance.

williethecat,

I'll through a couple of things at you. I have an 03 and the brake job is very simple. But that does not mean that it is ok. I would take the tire off and look at the calliper and 1) make sure the calliper is not loose, and 2) make sure that the pins that hold the brake pads in place are not broken. I did have to replace the callipers on my rig as one piston on each calliper was siezed. Also before you take the tire off make sure that the lug nuts are tight! They may have put the wrong lug nuts on after the job. I hope not but there is always that possability. The rims that are alloy need a special lug nut. They are not your ordinary lug nut. There is a post that has a picture of the lug nuts. I don't know where it is but I'm sure someone will respond with a picture if needed. Maybe since the car has been lifted to do the brake job it might have aggravated a worn shook/strut or something of that sort. Hope this helps.
I think that it is brake related since it did not have the problem before the work had been accomplished.
One more thought: they might have put the wrong pads on.
