Transmission Fluid Change

Talked to Toyota dealer about having a automatic transmission fluid change for my 2007 4Runner V6. They stated that they flush the fluid and only add like 3 1/2 quarts, so basically they just drain the pan. My main question is that they stated that the fluid "must be changed" by a "pressurized, closed system" only used by Toyota dealer. Is this fact or bull? Other service places i have called said they can change the fluid, but no of them mentioned the system being pressurized.

Dealer is full of bull. Anyone can perform a cooler line flush. Machine just makes it easier.
Machine uses the pressure of the old fluid to push new ATF in simultaneously.

This Veh has a World Std Transmission...Meaning the fluid should last 100k per Toyota. You will need a scan tool to re-fill the transmission fluid....You can also Try
measuring the amout of fluid that came out....These are not easy to change fluid
or to flush them.. We charge $175.00 to flush...Fluid is also expensive.

The system is not Pressurized....You have to pump it but no pressure.
System is closed. The amount of fluid is correct...flushing just means running clean fluid thru case, convertor and lines until its clean.

You don't need a scan tool. You do need to know how to check the temperature of the ATF. And, an IR temp gun will work too.

World Standard is a marketing claim. By no means is there ANY ATF that can make it to 100k miles. The UOAs of T-IV and WS that I've seen shown completely wasted ATF by about 30k miles. Pretty sad that some still fall for any automakers' marketing bull.

A drain/refill is 3-4 quarts depending on how patient someone is. Anyone can do this. A cooler line flush allows you to remove more ATF and you'll need to pump in at least 8-quarts after the pan d/r, or 12+ quarts if you skip the pan d/r.

DIY2007 4runner transmission flush

I have seen a mention that there is a thread on DIY instructions for a complete automatic transmission flush. I have searched for about a half hour and can not find it. I want to know a safe way to pump old fluid out without a special pump. I do have all sorts of fluid pumps but nothing specifically for transmission flushing. If there is a way to disconnect the cooler lines and pump in new fluid to displace old fluid that would be great. Otherwise any safe recommended procedure is appreciated.
