Mileage to Empty not reading properly Anyone experience? Any help appreciated,

hello, my wife has a 2005 Toyota 4runner V6 sport with about 62k miles on the clock. She drives it more than I do and pretty much drives it everyday. Her trips are usually the same (as far as traffic and mileage and driving habits)

Up until recently (so for about the last year now) she has been filling up her gas and only getting 409 miles on the (miles to empty meter). The digital mileage meter on the climate control below the radio.

Previously she was getting 464 miles for the longest that she could remember from when she got the car.

Has anyone experienced this or know what the problem is?

The car drives and runs fine as far as we can tell. Feels the same since she got it new. Other than a tune up (60k miles) thats its getting now, I don't know what it could be. Maintenance on the car is done routinely as in (oil changes, air filter changes, tire changes, etc.)

Fuel sending unit (the float) maybe gas or something clogged up? fuel filter? plugs or coils (not sure since it runs fine) and not really losing gas mileage except on mileage to empty meter. (something electronic)? as in computer wise?

any help would be appreciated.

The weather has gotten colder lately and that would cause a drop in gas mileage. It takes longer for your car to reach optimum operating temperature and thus use more gas.

What about the tire pressure, have you check that lately. Again colder weather will affect the tire pressure, lowering the pressure.

Have you checked your spark plugs to make sure they are all look fine. One bad one can cause a misfire.

SELL/Trade it for something with better fuel mileage and you'll get lower maintenance costs as well.

its not the gas mileage thats affected. We love the car and it drives and runs fine. Tire pressure is fine and weather is not affecting it. This has happened in the past year.

The meter display below the radio (on the climate display) shows less miles than it did before. Im not sure why it is showing less miles.

karamanos,

The meters arn't always accurate. Over time they tend to become a little less accurate. I have seen the same type of issue with ours. I just use it a reference, not as gospel.
