What is this thing in front of the starter?



Here is a picture of it removed with the part number.



Just a heads up to anyone thinking about removing the starter on one of these, what you see is only the begining. This is where the difficult part starts. I was successful, it was not fun.

That's an air pump designed to cool the poorly engineered starter placement.

Toyota cleverly calls it an intake emissions pump. It retails for about $1100.00 US. and is also used on some Lexus engines.
