Popping When Turning at Full Lock

I did a search but maybe my search criteria wasn't worded well. I get a popping noise when my steering wheel is turned full lock to the left. It only does it for turning one direction.

I'm assuming it's a ball joint/tie rod/control arm; something in that area. I see a thread below where someone else is talking about a popping noise and it possibly being u-joints. Mine doesn't do it over bumps---only when turning the steering wheel fulll lock. I THINK it's on left turns; either way it only does it when I turn one direction; the other way it's normal.

I usually try to work on my own stuff, so whatever it is, let me know how difficult the repair is. I have to do front brake pads soon. The stealer wanted $210, and I found the pads on Rock Auto for about $20.

I realize this has been here awhile....but, try greasing the steering stops. My 4R started doing this recently too, and that cured the problem. Seems to be a common theme with Toyota trucks....though a very minor thing. My father in-law has a '93 pickup that does (did) the same thing.

Thanks! I did a Google search and found a picture of the steering stops, so now I know what to grease. Glad it's something minor, not requiring a large repair. These 4Runners are rock solid reliable compared to other vehicles I've owned.
