Dealer Wants to Charge Me to Reprogram Door Locks???

Picked up my '11 4Runner on Wednesday read the Owners' Manual and discovered that the dealer can re-program the door locks and other stuff. So, I go back on Thursday and ask the dealer to do some re-prograning and they want to charge me $54. WTF??? Well, I bitched and the service guy tells me that the owner will have to wave the charge. WTF??? Anybody else have a similar issue?

A lot of dealers will charge you to reprogram. I work at a Toyota dealership in Madison, WI, and we gladly do it for free, even a year later, and we don't make you jump through hoops to get it done, either.

The 4Runner actually has a ton of cool features that can be reprogrammed

Honestly, I can agree with the dealer charging a fee for a second reprogram. However, when I picked up the truck, I was never given the opportunity to customize the programming. Initially programing the preferences should be part of the new car delivery service.

Anyway, the owner did agree to wave the fee, but only after I threatened to complain to Toyota.

^Technically, it is supposed to be. Here, it's part of a checklist we go through. Maybe you should remind your dealer?

You're right. I sure hope Toyota monitors these web sites. Incidentally, I did not get a "new car checklist" from the dealer and the tires were at 50 psi.
