'99 Transmission won't shift
My '99 Sienna (173k mi) won't shift to fourth gear without letting up on the accelerator. Local mechanic worked on, changed some parts, put it back together with same result (no charge). Took to local dealer today, they say transmission fluid is burned smelling and recommend replacement tranny. Transmission fluid looks and smell fine to me. Is this symptom worthy of a new (remanufactured) transmission ($3300 at dealer, possibly less elsewhere)? I had planned to use the van locally for hauling kids, etc.
