Angry Sienna tire warning lite

Need some help- my wife just bought a 2000 Sienna LX-EFG.... whatever with all the toys, but no owners manual. (we're trying to get one!) One of these toys is a low tire warning light that came on when she had a flat. Put on new tire (Rt. R) and light still comes on. Toyota dealer said this light will come on simply because there is a different tread pattern on the new tire. Is that possible? Tire company said no way. Is there a "reset" or some explanation for this light. Pressures have been checked all around and ok.
Thanks for any advice
Ted

A few years ago, during my ill-fated experiment with GM ownership, I got some experience with their system, which I understand is very similar to the Toyota system. It does NOT really measure tire pressure. Rather, it uses the ABS sensors, of all things, to compare wheel rotation speeds. When one tire's rotation speed becomes sufficiently different from the others, the LTP system "assumes" that this is a result of the decreasing circumference of a deflating tire and gives you the warning. I believe the GM system reset itself with each start. Regardless of reset method, however, if you've now got a new tire mixed with three old ones, you may be getting "false positives" from that fact alone. That being the case, you can reset it all you want, and that's not going to help. You're right that getting a manual and studying it should be step #1. Alas, my hunch is that the solution to your problem will be found in the stock room of your local tire store. Good luck with this...

^I think it is right next to the steering wheel.

it's just under and to the left (towards teh door, kinda hidden under the dash) of the steering wheel.

like ekpolk said above, since the tire is different than the Right Front tire, it will give a false positive. Now....if u change the opposite wheel (since u changed the right rear, change the front left to the same one), u can get around it i believe. i was reading about it in the 04 sienna's handbook while driving down to Atlanta i believe it said that

here is what you do,

the Reset botton is on the lower left hand side of the steering.

Turn the car on and leave it in Park Position.. it will not reset if the car is not turned on.
hold the botton down for few second till the Tire Light blinks three time.... once it blinks 3 times, its done reseting.

make sure you have 35PSI in Each tire b4 you reset it.

hope that helps

yeah, but if the one tire is different, that' might not allow it to reset properly anyways, cuz it does compare tires.

my mom has a 2000 sienna and it happens all the time. she just ignores it now.

another thing you need to be careful with is the power sliding door. try not using it unless you have to. we used that door alot and about a year ago the cables in the door got tangled up really bad and now the door cant even open. someday my dad and i will take it apart and fix it.

yeah, on her old 01 i believe, the tire warning came on all the time, it was pretty annoying. her right door was screwed up, but it wasn't power.

I have a 2000 Sienna, and the Tire Light works well. Had a slow leak from a nail I did not even notice. But, the light came on. I stopped and saw that my left rear tire had lost pressure.

That is exactly what to do. Works well. Manual will also tell you that the system needs some time to readjust it's calibrations so sensor may not be accurate for a few days while it learns the new rotational speeds, etc.

HTH.

Good Luck.
