I noticed a lot of surface rust on the underside of my OEM running boards.
They do not seem to be as rust resistant as the rest of the vehicle's underside.
I sprayed mine with Eastwood Rust Converter, then..... a couple days later sprayed them with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator, which is a paint that serves as both a primer and a top coat.
I followed it up about a week later with another coat of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator.
Of course, this is all on the underside of the running boards......not the top.

I also have gone over the underside of the vehicle.....and sprayed it with the Encapsulator wherever I saw signs of surface rust........NOT the exhaust system, but the hangers for the exhaust system included.
I sprayed the subframe and control arms.....etc as well.

I bought the products online, expensive, but it held up very well on my '96 Ford Windstar for many years.

The other thing to REALLY watch out for.......the running board supports are NOT intended to support the vehicle in jacking or with the floor lifts used at repair shops.
A co-worker had his running boards broken at a tire place when they used the running board supports for lift points for the vehicle lift.
This is an easy mistake to make as....at a glance, they look more substantial than they really are.

Yea, I noticed the rust too. Unfortunately, one board is pretty much about to fall off, and the other one has substantial rust. No luck at the local junkyards. Pretty sure they'd all be rusted too around here. Haven't even seen many siennas with runnng boards around town. I'll just keep my eyes out and look online. thanks.

I've never noticed them on Sienna's. I haven't been able to find many Sienna's in the junk yard here. I haven't taken the time to drive down to the junkyards but every time I call they say they don't have any.

Maybe a shop will break them and get you new ones.
